The Event Processing Technical Society in conjunction with the OMG Event Processing Community of Practice is sponsoring two competitions:- An Innovative Event Processing Principles Contest. The contest is open to private persons from all countries as well as to organizations from all from all countries, of all sizes, including government agencies.

The ACM DEBS (Distributed Event Based System) is the flagship conference of the event-based systems community. DEBS 2011 will be held in Yorktown Heights, NY, USA in July 11-15, 2011.
Call for Tutorials
Following the success of the tutorial days in the last two DEBS onferences, DEBS 2011 will host a one-day, multi-track tutorial program for which it solicits proposals for tutorials. The goal of the tutorial program of DEBS 2011 is to provide independent instruction on topics related to event-based computing, both fitting for the research audience and to an industrial audience. We solicit both long (3 hours) and short (1.5 hours) tutorials. A tutorial may cover a wide scope of topics ranging from practical techniques and guidelines over standards to theoretical work. Please note that no marketing or product specific tutorials will be accepted. Tutorial levels may be introductory, intermediate, or advanced. Topics of broad interest are preferred.

Event Processing Technical Society (EPTS) PresentsInnovative Event Processing Application Contest The Event Processing Technical Society in collaboration with the OMG Event Processing Community of Practice is sponsoring an Innovative Event Processing Application case study competition. The competition is open to organizations of all sizes, including government agencies, which have delivered, or are developing, an innovative event processing application. The goal of the contest is to highlight applications showing significant and innovative use of event processing. To qualify for the competition, the nominated application should have been developed in the past 5 years. Entries will be judged on the innovative use and potential or realized value from this application. Event Processing Technical Society (EPTS) Presents2010 Innovative Event Processing Principles Contest The Event Processing Technical Society is sponsoring an Innovative Event Processing Principles Contest. The contest is open to private persons from all countries as well as to organizations from all from all countries, of all sizes, including government agencies. The goal of this EPTS contest is to highlight research contributions significantly advancing the state-of-the-art in event processing. To qualify for the competition, research contributions (like conference or journal articles, doctoral theses, books) should have been published in the past 5 years, or accepted for publication in the last 12 months. Submissions by the (co-)authors of the research contribution are welcome. Integrating Complex Events for Collaborating and Dynamically Changing Business Processes
Abstract: Business processes must become agile, respond to changes in the business environment in a timely manner and quickly adapt themselves to new conditions. Event-Driven Business Process Management (ED-BPM) is an enhancement of Business Process Management (BPM) by concepts of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Complex Event Processing (CEP). The most important enhancement is the integration of services accessible via the Internet that fire events into global event clouds. The events can be processed by event processing platforms for aggregating the information into higher value complex business events. These events can be modeled in a business process execution language within a process driven Business Process Management System (BPMS) to trigger changes in control flow of a process or start other services. A reference model and a reference architecture for ED-BPM are presented, based on the NEXOF Reference Architecture. A taxonomy for classifying changes to process flow is proposed. Enhancements have to be applied to the existing standards in the BPM field, including both the design-time and the runtime. A scenario from the banking domain illustrates the main concepts and principles.
